My active interests are the lab's interests in aging, signaling, and evolvability.
I'm intrigued by the idea of networked tools for biology. The future of science will be shaped to a good measure by powerful scientific research instruments deployed through the web and the opportunities for the collaborative organization of real-time knowledge these instruments enable. This is what drives Cellucidate.

The concept of computation and its connection to biology (quite distinct from bioinformatics) have always exerted a pull on me. There is substantial overlap between the subject matters of computer science and biology. Both disciplines reason about behaviors by means of linguistic structures. They do so, however, from opposite sides of a material divide. To the extent that logical and molecular types can be unified, this divide will dissipate yielding a science of organization.

There is a thread from my past pursuits to my current research themes, but it may not be easy to recognize.
Way back when, I contributed the first program (and over time many more) to what has become the Vienna RNA package.
